Day Center for those with Mental Disabilities
In Efrat there is a day center that provides professional and therapeutic services for people living with dementia. The day center runs two groups simultaneously, that are split according to levels of cognitive function.
The day center is located in the Rimon neighborhood, open 5 days a week, Sunday-Thursday and includes transportation from home, breakfast, lunch and various activities.
The day center has a professional and dedicated staff that includes a social worker, an occupational therapist, a nurse, counselors, and therapists.
A personal therapeutic and occupational plan is built for each person in order to preserve their functional and cognitive state and slow down their deterioration from the disease.
The team members strive to enable participants to be part of a social system, to feel a sense of belonging to the group and the community by integrating the patients in meaningful activities.
Activities include: exercise, music, art, games, conversations and meetings that are adapted to the cognitive and physical level of the participants.
The staff is in continuous contact with the caring family members and in contact with the social workers in the Department of Social Services. They assist the families to get all the rights they deserve and provides support as needed.
The day center is working to renew and update their program with new equipment and methods of intervention to improve the service they provide.
For example, in 2022 we added a Snoezelen room in a day center. A Snoezelen is a sensory room equipped with equipment that provides sensory, visual and auditory stimuli. The treatment works to achieve a balance between stimulation and relaxation.
The presence of the day center in Efrat greatly helps patients and their families and enables relationships with the warm community of Efrat.
At the day center you can find volunteers of all ages as well as intergenerational bond strengthening programs during the school year.
