Social workers for the special needs population provide guidance and instruction to parents on rights and benefits. The social worker can assist in arranging for rehabilitation centers, afternoon care, respite days, employment, and housing.

Social workers organize and lead support groups and workshops for parents. They work in partnership with the psychological services and the education department, and participate in placement meetings.
